چکیده

We performed a Hong–Ou–Mandel interference experiment with 1.5μm band photon pairs generated through spontaneous four-wave mixing (SFWM) in two independent silicon wire waveguides (SWWs). To maintain the long-term stability of the coupling between the SWWs and optical fibers without a fiber alignment system, we employed fiber module SWWs installed in a rigid metallic case with fiber array interfaces. In addition, those signal photons that passed through a beam splitter (BS) were detected by high-speed singlephoton detectors that used InGaAs avalanche photodiodes operated in a gated mode with a high gate frequency of 500MHz. With these novel technologies, we successfully observed a quantum interference with a visibility of 73% without subtracting accidental coincidence counts in the fourfold coincidence measurement. 4 Author to whom any correspondence should be addressed. Continuous wave photon pair generation in silicon-on-insulator waveguides and ring resonators.

Silicon waveguides are promising chi(3)-based photon pair sources. Demonstrations so far have been based on picosecond pulsed lasers. Here, we present the first investigation of photon pair generation in silicon waveguides in a continuous regime. The source is characterized by coincidence measurements. We uncover the presence of unexpected noise which had not been noticed in earlier experiments...

Ultrafast all-optical switching by cross-absorption modulation in silicon wire waveguides.

We describe the use of two-photon absorption in submicron silicon wire waveguides for all-optical switching by cross-absorption modulation. Optical pulses of 3.2 ps were successfully converted from high power pump to low power continuous-wave signal with a fast recovery time. High speed operation was based on the induced optical absorption from non-degenerate two-photon absorption inside the wa...

Generation of correlated photons in nanoscale silicon waveguides.

.We experimentally study the generation of correlated pairs of photons through four-wave mixing (FWM) in embedded silicon waveguides. The waveguides, which are designed to exhibit anomalous group-velocity dispersion at wavelengths near 1555 nm, allow phase matched FWM and thus efficient pair-wise generation of non-degenerate signal and idler photons. Photon counting measurements yield a coincid...

High speed logic gate using two-photon absorption in silicon waveguides

The switching speed of conventional silicon-based optical switching devices based on plasma dispersion effect is limited by the lifetime of free carriers which introduce either phase or absorption changes. Here we report an all-optical logic NOR gate which does not rely on free carriers but instead uses two-photon absorption. High speed operation was achieved using pump induced non-degenerate t...

1.5 μm polarization entanglement generation based on birefringence in silicon wire waveguides.

In this Letter, the 1.5 μm polarization entanglement generation is realized in a silicon wire waveguide utilizing its birefringence. In this scheme, two orthogonal polarized correlated states are generated by scalar processes of spontaneous four-wave mixing (SFWM) in the quasi-transverse electrical and quasi-transverse magnetic modes, respectively. Meanwhile, the vector processes of SFWM are su...
